LIGHTYEARS

Lightyears was conceived with the idea of collecting a crucial part of the artist’s research into a book. After a meeting with Antonio Carloni, Pietribiasi then planned the book of photography and poetry with Stefano Vigni and Chiara Narcisi, which was published by the Seipersei publishing house with an introduction by Antonio Carloni. Inside the book, the photographs of landscape, taken in Italy, Greece, Brazil and Patagonia, alternate with still lifes and new poetic texts. The research concerns primary elements, like ice and rock – elements that we can also find in the rest of the universe. These analogies are precisely what interest the artist; they are metaphors through which Pietribiasi expresses a sense of bewilderment and longing that the human species has been experiencing in recent decades: solastalgia.

“In general, the photographs in the book Lightyears immortalise situations in suspended time and an imprecise place. In this project, I’m not interested in identifying – I prefer, instead, to encounter the universal nature of things. A non-time, a non-place where darkness and a glimmer alternate along an abstract line. Something has already happened; more still has to happen. Everything seems to be waiting.
There’s beauty but there’s also a sense of loss.”
